The long-awaited Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election concluded with voting from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at eight designated centers on campus. According to university authorities, voter turnout exceeded expectations, with more than 70 percent of students casting their ballots in a festive yet disciplined atmosphere. Vote counting began shortly after the polling ended.
At the Teacher-Student Center (TSC), where students of Rokeya Hall cast their votes, participation remained steady throughout the day. By 1:30 p.m., 3,300 students had voted, accounting for about 58 percent of the total 5,665 registered voters at this center. Of them, 2,100 cast their ballots at the cafeteria booths, while another 1,200 voted in the indoor games room. The presiding official, Nasrin Sultana, said female students were enthusiastic and exercised their rights without difficulty.
The Physical Education Center, which served as the polling place for Jagannath Hall, Zahurul Haq Hall, and S.M. Hall students, also recorded a strong turnout. By 2:30 p.m., around 78 percent of the 4,861 registered voters had cast ballots, equivalent to 3,786 votes. Meanwhile, the Senate Building emerged as another high-turnout center. With three separate polling stations—dining room, seminar room, and alumni floor—the center catered to students from Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Mohsin Hall, and Sir A.F. Rahman Hall. Out of a total 4,835 registered voters, about 4,000 had voted by 2:30 p.m., representing more than 82 percent turnout. Rahman Hall registered 1,100 votes out of 1,383 in the alumni floor booths. Returning officers overseeing each segment confirmed the figures and praised the orderly participation.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha both visited the Senate Building during the afternoon. They noted the enthusiasm of the students and expressed satisfaction that the process was running smoothly. The vice-chancellor remarked that turnout across most centers had already surpassed 70 percent by 3 p.m., and assured that any students waiting in line at closing time would still be allowed to cast their votes.
Udayan Higher Secondary School was another major center, hosting polling for students from Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, and Surya Sen Hall. By 2:30 p.m., an estimated 80 percent of votes had been cast. Specifically, 1,064 votes came from Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, 1,212 from Ziaur Rahman Hall, 1,350 from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, and 1,274 from Surya Sen Hall. Returning officer Professor S.M. Overall, the election day proceeded in a relatively festive atmosphere, with students casting their votes calmly and without reported disruption. University officials expressed optimism that the high turnout would strengthen the legitimacy of the DUCSU polls, which remain a significant platform for student leadership and representation at Dhaka University.
