Bangladesh’s national football players and officials have safely returned home aboard a special flight operated by the Bangladesh Air Force. The team landed at Kurmitola Military Airport in Dhaka at 4:36 PM, arriving from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Journalists who had traveled to Nepal to cover the Bangladesh-Nepal match also returned on the same flight. The team left Crown Imperial Hotel in Kathmandu at 8:45 AM local time and reached the airport by 8:45 AM, completing immigration and departing for Dhaka at 2:55 PM.
The return comes after violent protests in Nepal on Tuesday over corruption and mismanagement escalated, leading to arson and clashes. Amid the unrest, Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned. Protesters set fire to government buildings and the parliament, and casualties were reported during the two days of violence.
Although the team had initially hoped to return on Wednesday night after Kathmandu airport reopened, it was not possible. They have now safely arrived back in Bangladesh.
